Alexander Skarsgård: natty or not?
Uncertain Tarzan, and The Northman — two of the most-cited actor transformations of the last decade
Short answer. Verdict: uncertain. At the peak physique on this page, Alexander Skarsgård is 6'4" (194 cm) and 212 lbs (96 kg) at roughly 8% body fat. That works out to an FFMI of 22.6, against the ~25 mark cited as the natural ceiling.
No official record settles this. What follows is opinion and analysis based on public numbers — how we judge.

A press photo from the Los Angeles premiere of True Blood on 4 September 2008 has Skarsgård at 32, eight years before Tarzan.
Skarsgård trained for seven months to prepare for The Legend of Tarzan, and turned up in a condition that started the usual argument.
The numbers
The prep itself was reported with a number. He spent three months bulking, adding more than 11 kg (24 lbs) on 7,000 calories a day, then cut for four more. His trainer Magnus Lygdbäck put the starting point on record too: “Alex came in super lean and we started at 5,000 calories a day and he was losing body fat, so we had to up his calories so he was about 7,000 calories a day.” The first row in the table is that arithmetic run backwards — the Tarzan estimate minus the reported 11 kg — so it inherits every uncertainty of both numbers.
Taken together, the timeline reads: roughly 19.5 to 22.6 on the FFMI scale in about seven months, at age 38–39. The gross gain was partly fat by design — that is what a 7,000-calorie bulk is — and the cut kept most of the lean tissue. Even so, if half the 24 lbs survived the cut as muscle, 12 lbs of new lean mass in seven months at that age and training history sits at the top of what the ceilings in our methodology allow, not past it.
At 6’4”, his peak FFMI still sits below the drug-free ceiling our methodology page cites. He is tall, and tall absorbs muscle without moving the index. The arithmetic asks a question now, but quietly.
What keeps it in the middle tier
Two things the arithmetic cannot price. He was forty, an age at which building visible muscle is harder and prescribed testosterone is commonplace. And the timeline is a studio timeline: seven months, full-time, with a trainer, a chef and a deadline — which is the exact situation where the shortcut is most available and most invisible.
There is no admission, test, or allegation on his record.
