Mitchell Hooper: natty or not?
Likely enhanced World's Strongest Man in 2023 and 2026 — the sport's first champion with a physiology degree
Short answer. Verdict: likely enhanced. At the peak physique on this page, Mitchell Hooper is 6'3" (190 cm) and 331 lbs (150 kg) at roughly 18% body fat. That works out to an FFMI of 33.5, against the ~25 mark cited as the natural ceiling.
No official record settles this. What follows is opinion and analysis based on public numbers — how we judge.

Note. Competition weight and body fat are estimates inside his reported range, and the verdict is opinion — Hooper has no admission, failed test, or record on file. See the methodology page for how we judge.
He did, however, compete at the first Enhanced Games, in the deadlift at Resorts World in Las Vegas on 24 May 2026 — an event whose entire premise is that athletes may use drugs banned everywhere else. Turning up is not an admission, and this page does not treat it as one. It is still the most relevant fact anyone has added to his file, and the photo is the only dated image of him in the archive.
Mitchell Hooper is the most credentialed man in strongman: a human kinetics degree from Guelph, a master’s in clinical exercise physiology from Sydney, and his own kinesiology clinic. He won World’s Strongest Man in 2023 and again in 2026, at 6’3” and a reported 320-340 lbs.
Where he started
Hooper’s timeline is the most detailed on this site, because he is the rare subject whose body-fat numbers were published rather than guessed by us. In his college football days he weighed 245 lbs at 15 percent body fat; after “a period of neglect” that became 302 lbs at 40 percent; and a 14-month transformation took him to 195 lbs at four to five percent for a physique competition. He was on Guelph’s football roster in 2013-14 and the physique show was in 2015. He now competes above 330.
Read the lean mass rather than the scale weight and the shape is clear. At 245 lbs and 15 percent he carried around 208 lbs of lean tissue. At 302 lbs and 40 percent, despite weighing 57 lbs more, he carried about 181 lbs — less. At 195 lbs and five percent, about 185 lbs. All three of those are the same man, roughly the same size underneath, arranged differently.
Then he adds roughly 85 lbs of lean mass to reach his strongman weight, as an adult in his mid-twenties, after his frame had finished growing. That last step is the one this page’s verdict is about. The first three are just a man’s weight moving around, and they are worth showing because they make the last step legible instead of leaving one number on the page with nothing to compare it against.
The numbers
Hooper is shorter than most of the field and carries a comparable weight, which pushes his FFMI on this page well past the drug-free ceiling the methodology page cites, even at a generous body-fat estimate. Height squared is the denominator; being the compact one in a field of giants is precisely what moves the number.
What is not on the record
No failed test, no sanction, no admission. Strongman’s flagship event has no published anti-doping programme comparable to Olympic sport, so a clean sheet in this sport means considerably less than a clean sheet in one that tests.
Worth saying plainly, because he is unusually open about training science and people read that openness as an answer: explaining your programming in detail is not the same as answering the drug question, and he has not been asked to.
Verdict
Likely-enhanced — on the mass, held as opinion, on the same terms as every other athlete here competing in a sport that does not test.
Common questions
Is Mitchell Hooper natty or on steroids?
This site rates Mitchell Hooper as likely enhanced. That is an opinion drawn from public numbers, not a statement of fact: the peak physique on this page works out to an FFMI of 33.5, against the ~25 mark cited as the natural ceiling.
Has Mitchell Hooper ever failed a drug test or admitted to using PEDs?
Nothing of the sort turned up in the sources on this page. Had it, the verdict would read confirmed instead of likely enhanced.
What is Mitchell Hooper's FFMI?
About 33.5. That comes from 6'3" (190 cm) and 331 lbs (150 kg) at roughly 18% body fat, normalized to 1.8 m. Drug-free lifters in the Kouri 1995 study topped out near 25.
